CASE:
In our work for Ikea we build upwhole textile collections of many parts, which in a way is to tell a story. We design the parts i.e. bed linen, cushions, bedspread, rugs curtains, and bathroom and kitchen textiles for our story but, finally it is the costumer that in her way of choosing and mixing the products is telling her own personal story. Our design defined within its way of mix/matching the different patterns. For us it is interesting that our designs are used like that and are used all over the world in many different cultures.
Our view on the design process is to mix our Nordic design background and tradition with present influences from art and fashion – to create a modern long lasting feeling in strong and simple ornaments and patterns. We like the essence to be expressed as a mix of colours and different structures and textures in the fabrics and how these elements work together.
Apart from that we work as consultants/advisers (i.e. creating the design briefs for various companies design teams) and for companies with interpretation of trend material and making colour palettes to building up whole collections. Our colorsetting has been used from museums interior to Arne Jacobsens famous seven chair…
We work with very different clients from very highend end to Ikea…
Working with Ikea is very special to us. It all started in 1996 when we presented Ikea to our final studies from Danish school of Design. They hired us for carpet collection 15 minutes after. So Ikea was our first job and we are still working with them. And working there so many years means that we feel close to a certain “Ikea soul” that anybody working there knows. Ikea is a playground for designers. The developers there are very open minded. Things can happen. They take chances, they let them self take by surprise and be inspired. It is a good learning to work with Ikea.
